About the museum
The Molí de Dalt is a flour windmill built at the end of the 18th century, at the beginnings of the village of Sant Lluís and during the brief French rule of Menorca. It gives a very characteristic image of the entrance to the village and retains inside its whole structure and part of the original machinery.
It became a museum in 1987. The ground floor, which was formerly the miller’s house and store, has around 150 m² of exhibition space with vaults of marès, a local stone typical of Menorcan construction. There one of the most important ethnological collections on the island is displayed, made up of tools from the countryside and from vanished trades, accompanied by old photographs.
Among the pieces are churns, an old cheese press, blacksmith’s machines, the bread kneader and a payés cart (farmer’s cart). A spiral staircase leads to the second part of the visit, the restored mill, with the original machinery and the six sails that characterise its external appearance. The building is owned by the Consell Insular de Menorca and managed by the Sant Lluís Town Council.
