About the museum
The Molí de Sant Anastasi is a former flour mill whose origins go back to the 13th century. It used the water power of the Fontanet irrigation channel (acequia) to turn the stones that ground the cereals, and it had premises that served as a granary and the miller's dwelling. It is the last remnant of the old settlement of Vilanoveta de Fontanet (or de l’Horta), which stood on the site of what is now the La Bordeta neighbourhood.
The name comes from a relief of Saint Anastasius that presided over the façade. The original relief was removed in 1999, during the rehabilitation works, and is kept in the Arxiu Arqueològic. As it could not be returned to its place, a faithful reproduction was commissioned in 2022 and was installed in May 2023.
The restored building is now one of the spaces of the Museu de l’Aigua de Lleida, together with the Campament de la Canadenca, the Dipòsit del Pla de l’Aigua and the Pous del Gel. The interior has information panels explaining how the mill worked and its historical importance.
