About the museum

Interest in Crevillent’s archaeology began in the 1950s, when a group of mountain enthusiasts discovered sites such as the Peña Negra and the Castellar, and in 1954 founded the Centro Excursionista de Crevillent. In 1969 the group organised a first archaeology exhibition, and between 1970 and 1974 it kept a small permanent display in its premises.

In 1974 the town council acquired the Casa del Parc Nou and handed over to the group the rooms the museum now occupies, with ten display cases to move the exhibition. The house, in the casticista style, was built in 1927 by the architect Juan Vidal Ramos for the family of Pascual Mas Mas, and a renovation modernised it in 2011.

On the ground floor you can see the study-laboratory of Dr Francisco Mas Magro, a researcher from Crevillent in haematology, and the original entrance hall, dining room and chapel of the house. The first floor houses the archaeology museum, with the exhibition “Vida y muerte en Peña Negra”, and a section on illustrious people from Crevillent devoted to the violinist Telmo Vela; in the attic is the municipal art gallery. The museum is currently under refurbishment.
