About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Herminio Revilla, a woodcarver and radio and television technician, who began gathering his work in the basement of the family home and later in a family shop in Aguilar de Campoo. Between 2001 and 2013 the collection was housed in Barruelo de Santullán, and on 28 July 2013 it opened to the public in Villabellaco, the author’s home village, within his own workshop house.
The exhibition brings together more than six hundred carvings made from local hardwoods such as oak, ash, walnut and maple, which depict rural life, tools, characters and everyday scenes of the Santullán and Campoo valleys. It is complemented by moving models of traditional trades and activities, many now disappeared, such as a mill, a fulling mill and a trip hammer, and by a collection of old radios that still work and are maintained by the founder himself.
The centre is part of the Red Museística de Castilla y León as a cultural heritage interpretation centre and is organised into three rooms. Since 2025 it has been supported by the Fundación Museo Casa-Taller Herminio Revilla, established on 1 September of that year. The Senda del Escultor Ursi, a route of about 13 km, begins beside the museum.
