About the museum

The Museo de Aguas de Alicante opened in February 2009, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the company Aguas de Alicante and in collaboration with the town council. According to the company itself, it has received more than 300,000 visitors and its contents are renewed continuously. It is located in a newly built building adjoining the Pozos de Garrigós.

The route is spread over three floors. The ground floor explains the history of settlements and cultures, the evolution of water techniques and uses, the methods for capturing and distributing it, and the history of the water supply concession in the city. The first floor is an educational, interactive space with games and new technologies on the states of water and the integrated water cycle, with a cinema room. The second floor presents recent projects and sustainable development actions.

The Pozos de Garrigós are cisterns carved out of the rock in the 19th century, with a capacity of more than 800,000 litres, which collected and stored rainwater for later distribution. The museum is on the slope of Mount Benacantil, next to the pedestrian entrance to the Parque de la Ereta.
