About the museum
The Museo de Alcalá de Guadaíra opened on 11 November 2005 in a converted hall of the former Idogra factory, which processed olive by-products and had been founded at the beginning of the 20th century under the name Martí y Gutiérrez. The industrial site became an urban park, the Parque Centro, which is today a focal point of the city’s social and cultural life.
The museum brings together municipal collections of archaeology, art and bullfighting painting, including the legacy of the Conde de Colombí. The ground floor houses the permanent route “Tiempo de Paisajes”, devoted to the landscape painters of the Escuela de Alcalá between 1850 and 1950, with works by artists such as Emilio Sánchez Perrier, José Jiménez Aranda, Manuel García Rodríguez and José Pinelo Llull. The upper floor is used for temporary exhibitions.
The museum also offers a library specialising in art and local heritage, educational workshops, the “Museo y Escuela” programme and a friends’ club.
