About the museum
The Museo Antonio Marco, better known as the Museum of the Nativity Scene and Dollhouses, is in El Castell de Guadalest and opened in 1992. It is a monographic display of the work of the artist Antonio Marco, born in Yecla and adopted by Requena, who was a craftsman, model maker, nativity-scene maker and collector throughout his life. The nativity room houses his first work, made at the age of 8, and his last, made at 80.
The building is attached to a natural rock that runs through it. On the top floor is a nativity town of 14 tonnes, built on that rock with real materials such as stone, cement and brick and set in the early 20th century, with fountains, waterfalls, a river with fish, moving machines, a period train and natural vegetation thanks to the microclimate created.
The dollhouses are not the traditional wooden ones that open at the front or the roof: they are authentic houses on a 1:12 scale, made of stone, tile, brick and cement, with interior decoration, wooden and iron furniture, lighting and tableware, and even photographs from the author’s family album. The museum’s three floors also display a collection of antique toys.
