About the museum
The museum is part of the Museos de Miniaturas de Guadalest (Guadalest Miniature Museums), which bring together the work of the micro-miniaturist Manuel Ussà. The other museum in the group is the Museo Microgigante, on Calle del Sol. The pieces in the Museo de Microminiaturas are so small that they can only be seen with powerful magnifying glasses.
According to the museum's own website, Ussà works quietly with bifocal magnifiers of 10 to 80 times magnification, polarised light and instruments of his own invention, including almost invisible brushes. His works reproduce famous paintings by Velázquez, Rubens, Goya and Titian on supports such as a grain of rice, a seed or the wing of a fly, and also tiny sculptures in hair, needles or insects.
Visits are led by guides who speak Spanish, English, French, Russian, German and Dutch.
