About the museum
The museum occupies the former San Francisco convent in Ampudia, founded in the 17th century by the Duke of Lerma, favourite of Philip III. Of that complex the church survives, in a late Renaissance style with Mudéjar decoration and a Latin cross plan; the original cloister no longer exists, although the brick round arches that gave access to it remain.
The museum brings together an important religious heritage from the town and from the province of Palencia: sculptures, paintings and goldsmith's pieces dated between the 12th and 18th centuries, together with liturgical ornaments, choir books, chalices, processional crosses and furniture. The artists mentioned include Tomás de Sierra, Pedro de Ávila and the Maestro de Paredes, alongside numerous anonymous works.
