About the museum
The museum occupies one of the pavilions of the former Revellín Barracks, built in 1900 by the Corps of Military Engineers to a design by the Comandancia Exenta de Ceuta. In 1989 the rehabilitation of the building to house the museum was approved, and the same year it was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (protected cultural heritage site).
The façades have a neoclassical character: above a rusticated plinth rises a two-storey section with superimposed pilasters, topped by a set-back third storey. The museum occupies the ground floor and the first floor.
The permanent archaeology exhibition follows a chronological order, divided into the Ancient, Medieval and Early Modern periods, with several thematic groups in each period. The facilities also include two rooms for temporary exhibitions.
