About the museum
The Museo de Informática Histórica of the University of Zaragoza began in 2003, when a temporary exhibition of old equipment marked the tenth anniversary of the Computer Engineering degree. The display became permanent a few months later, and in 2010 it received its current name. Since 2008, according to the museum's website, the Asociación RetroAcción has handled its technical management.
The exhibition area extends along the corridors of floors 0, 1 and 2 of the Ada Byron building on the Río Ebro Campus, so it can be visited during the building's opening hours. In 2019 the existing areas were enlarged and new ones were created, so the route now covers the main families of computers in history.
On floor 0 are shown the components of a computer, home computers, Apples, PC-compatibles, portable computing, and servers and terminals; floor 2 completes this with workstations. Floor 1 is devoted to computer applications: video games, with an area honouring Spanish contributions, computer graphics and music, and business applications. The holdings include several thousand items, programs and original documentation, as well as user testimonies.
