About the museum
The La Alcudia site covers about 11 hectares on the outskirts of Elche. For centuries it was farmland and a quarry, and at the end of the 19th century the introduction of irrigation brought ancient remains to light, among them the Dama de Elche, which is now kept in the Museo Arqueológico Nacional in Madrid.
The visit combines a circuit through the most outstanding remains with the Interpretation Centre, at the entrance, and the Monographic Museum, in the central area. The latter houses most of the collection from the excavations. It has a vestibule dedicated to the Dama de Elche and three rooms, titled Iberia, Hispania and Spania, as well as interactive spaces on the work of the archaeology and restoration teams.
Along the route you can see the Roman city wall and the western baths, the so-called Iberian houses, the domus of the impluvium and of Sailacos, the cistern known as the Aljibe de Venus, the eastern baths, the monument to the Dama, a reconstruction of an Iberian temple and a Christian basilica.
