About the museum
The museum opened in July 2004 in one of Blesa's former carpentry workshops, in the Cuencas Mineras district (Teruel). The workshop was founded by Germán Lomba, who bought the premises in 1916. His sons continued the trade until José Lomba retired in the early 1980s.
The Lomba family made complete carts, both the wooden and the metal parts, and also made some of the village's wrought-iron grilles at the forge. The large double-blast bellows stands out, much bigger than domestic ones.
The collection brings together more than 200 pieces of machinery and tools, and also shows objects made by the carpenters: furniture, carts, barrels, suitcases and musical instruments. Six large panels explain the processes of working wood. An audio recording voicing Salvador Gisbert, a figure from Blesa in the early 20th century, guides the visit. According to the museum, it is the first in the country to present the histories of these two trades together. It is run by the Asociación Cultural El Hocino.
