About the museum

The Museo de la Ciudad de Carmona occupies the Casa Palacio Marqués de las Torres, on Calle San Ildefonso, in the heart of the historic old town. The renovation works to adapt it as a museum made it possible to document its origins in the 16th century and the reforms of the 18th century. The building retains features of Sevillian manor-house architecture, such as a broad Baroque doorway dated 1775, the entrance hall and a central courtyard with a round-arched arcade on marble columns.

The route offers an overview of Carmona's history from the first evidence of settlement to the present day. The rooms are arranged by period: Palaeolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age, Tartessian and Orientalising city, Turdetani city, Carthaginian and Roman period, Visigothic, Muslim and Christian Middle Ages, early modern period and the contemporary city.

Among the most outstanding pieces are the Tartessian remains, especially the Vasos de Saltillo, and the Roman materials that explain the splendour of the ancient city of Carmo. The museum also has a collection of contemporary painting, with works by artists such as J. Arpa, Rodríguez Jaldón and Valverde Lasarte, a room dedicated to Francisco Rodríguez Nodal, an immersive experience room and another on Carmona's cultural landscape.
