About the museum
The Museo EMT Madrid brings together the historic rolling stock of the Empresa Municipal de Transportes, founded in 1947. Its collection begins that same year and comprises around two hundred items. Since 1990 the company has kept one unit of each vehicle model it withdraws from service, so the collection has grown over the decades.
The museum occupies around 5,000 m² in the former Taller General (General Workshop) of the Fuencarral-Puerta Sur Operations Centre, a workplace that is still in operation. For operational and safety reasons it can only be visited in small groups and with a guide, and tickets are sold exclusively online.
The route features buses more than eighty years old, articulated models, trolleybuses and vehicles that have since left the fleet, among them the Guy Arab of 1947, the Leyland Titan of 1957, the Pegaso 6035-A of 1966 and the Pegaso Sava minibus of 1976. Uniforms, old tickets, maps, engines, models, bus stops and shelters are also on display. The visit includes the Sala Alcántara, and an audio guide app lets visitors discover further details of the museum.
