About the museum
The Centro de Exposiciones Arte Canal is the exhibition space of the Fundación Canal, created by the Canal de Isabel II, on the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, next to the Plaza de Castilla. The room occupies one of the four compartments of the Cuarto Depósito, a large buried water reservoir of the Canal de Isabel II, and it opened as an exhibition hall in November 2004. In 2018 the Community of Madrid stated that more than three million people had already visited it.
The centre has no permanent collection: its programme is based on temporary exhibitions of art, photography and culture, which the foundation complements with guided visits, workshop-visits for families, school activities and lecture cycles. Today the room appears on the foundation's website as Sala Castellana 214, and the Fundación Canal also runs another exhibition room at Calle Mateo Inurria, 2.
