About the museum

Cinctorres is a village in the interior of Castellón known for making fajas (sashes): the cloth bands seen on muixerangues (human towers), castells (human castles), at the Sanfermines and on the costaleros (float bearers) of Holy Week. From this tradition emerged the figure of the faixero, the travelling salesman who toured Spain selling sashes and always returned to the village in the end.

The Museo de la Faixa was created to give value to this trade and its importance in the town. It is in the town centre, on Calle Hospital, and shows how a faja is made, from the looms to the manufacture of the cords. A sculpture was also erected in honour of the faixero, with the inscription “El cinctorrano que se va pero siempre vuelve al pueblo” (“The native of Cinctorres who leaves always returns to the village”).

The visit is part of a guided tour of the village's heritage, which starts at the tourist office and also includes the church, the Ermita de San Luis and the Parish Museum.
