About the museum
The Military Pharmacy museum collection was born with the opening, in 1928, of the former Central Medicines Laboratory on calle de Embajadores in Madrid, where it remained for 87 years. In 2015 it moved to its current location, the Centro Militar de Farmacia de la Defensa, within the San Pedro Logistics Base in Colmenar Viejo.
The museum is state-owned and depends on the Ministry of Defence. It has a permanent exhibition area of 650 m², organised into twelve thematic areas, and a 150 m² storeroom that can be visited.
The route follows the history of the military pharmacist: his dual role as scientist and soldier, the origins of the pharmaceutical service in the armies, a 17th-century iatrochemical laboratory, the apothecary shop of the Royal Hospital of Ceuta, the industrialisation of medicines, the field pharmacy, the laboratories of the 20th century and the current work of the Military Pharmacy.
