About the museum

The Museo de la Miel is in Murgia, the capital of the Álava municipality of Zuia, on the slopes of the Gorbeia Natural Park. It occupies the Casa Oregi, a stone house owned by the municipality at the entrance to the town centre, which it shares with the music school. The museum opened in 2001 and is run by the Gorbeia Beekeepers’ Association, which has its headquarters here.

The exhibition explains where and how honey is produced in the Gorbeia area. On the ground floor there are traditional beekeeping tools and utensils, hives, interactive panels with images, a video, a station for learning about honey aromas and an extraction room where you can see how honey is obtained. The approach is that of a museum where you learn by touching, smelling and seeing, designed for all audiences and with special resources for the youngest visitors.

The association that runs it also offers honey-related experiences, such as hive visits, and the museum sells honey and other bee products.
