About the museum

The Parketxe de Sarria is the Casa del Parque (park house) and interpretation centre of the Gorbeia Natural Park on its Álava side, in the municipality of Zuia. It stands in the area of the Baias power station, about 1.5 kilometres from the village of Sarria, next to a picnic area and a car park, and is the usual starting point for getting to know the park and its routes to the summit of Gorbeia.

The exhibition, which is visited independently, is organised according to the four seasons of the year and shows how the landscape, the behaviour of animals and human activity change over the course of the year. It is interactive, as panels and elements can be handled, and includes a section on the red deer rut (berrea). A relief model of the massif, with a recorded narration, sums up the landscape, geology and culture of the park.

The centre also has a projection room for 51 people, where two videos are shown in Basque and Spanish: one for adult audiences of about 30 minutes and an animated one of about 20 minutes. At the reception visitors can find information about the park and the protected areas of Álava, and publications and some local products are sold. The centre’s team also runs environmental education programmes for schools.
