About the museum

The Museu de la Rajoleria de Paiporta occupies the former El Pilar brick and tile factory, known as the Rajolar de Bauset. The factory, owned by Francisco Bauset and Teresa Masiá, began operating around mid-1924 and had a continuous Hoffmann kiln with twelve doors, one of the largest of its type, and a chimney built by José Martínez and his son Abelardo Martínez, as well as a water tank, mixing pools, a clay area, drying lines and dryers.

The family ran the business until the 1990s; afterwards it was leased to José and Rafael Pastor Gandul, who renamed it Cerámica Valenciana and switched from solid brick to hollow brick. The town council bought the land in December 1994, and the rehabilitation works were carried out between 1997 and 2000. The building opened on 5 October 2000, and in 2001 the museum joined the Valencian Museum System of the Generalitat. In 2011 the kilns were included in the National Industrial Heritage Plan.

The museum preserves the ethnological heritage of Paiporta and promotes local culture through exhibitions, guided visits, educational workshops and a photographic archive of the municipality. It has a permanent room, a temporary room and an annex room.
