Museo de la Siderurgia de Asturias (MUSI)

Museum of the iron and steel industry in La Felguera, housed in a former cooling tower of the Duro Felguera factory.

Opening hoursAdmission €6

About the museum

The MUSI opened in September 2006 in La Felguera, in the municipality of Langreo, within the Valnalón business complex. It occupies a former cooling tower 45 metres high, shaped as a truncated cone, belonging to the Duro Felguera factory, which in the mid-19th century was Spain’s first major integrated iron and steel works.

The exhibition traces the industrial history of Duro y Compañía, the company founded by Pedro Duro, and the working and living conditions of the workers and their families. On the ground floor there are the reception, a model of the factory, an explanation of the steel-making process and an audiovisual room. On the first floor there are panels, models and the collection devoted to the mining basins, as well as Pedro Duro’s office. On the lower level is the Sala Bayer, which tells the story of aspirin and of the factory that the German pharmaceutical company Bayer had in Langreo. Next to the tower, the visit can be completed with routes through workers’ housing and through the old town of La Felguera.
