About the museum
The Pinacoteca Municipal de Langreo is named after the painter and sculptor Eduardo Úrculo (1938–2003). It opened in April 2007 in La Felguera. It was set up on the initiative of Langreo town council, with donations from the La Carbonera Cultural Society, and recalls the artist's ties to the municipality.
The gallery is housed in the former municipal slaughterhouse, a group of industrial halls dating from 1919 that was renovated in the mid-2000s. Original features have been kept, such as the overhead rails used to transport meat and the raised water tank outside. The buildings are linked by glazed corridors and surround a garden.
The collection focuses on Asturian art from after the Civil War, with works by artists from Langreo such as Zuco, Úrculo, Beltrán, Lombardía and Rey Fueyo, and by contemporary Asturian artists such as Antonio Suárez, Bartolomé, Sanjurjo, Herminio and Maojo. The centre also offers educational workshops for children and a multipurpose room for lectures and screenings.
