About the museum
The Casa de les Radios, in Suares (municipality of Bimenes), brings together two collections with a total of 484 items. The Onís collection, formed by José Alonso Onís, has 340 items, including gramophones, gramophone-cabinets, radios, records and microphones. The collection of receivers from Suares, assembled by the Asociación de Vecinos de Suares, adds another 144 items.
Of this total, 119 items from the Onís collection and 37 from the Suares collection are currently on display, and the display will be renewed as more devices are restored. The route is chronological: the oldest and most emblematic devices are seen first, and the most recent ones are on the upper floor.
As well as the devices, several panels explain the origins of radio, from the research of Maxwell and Hertz to commercial broadcasting, and the history of radio in Spain and in Asturias.
