About the museum
The Museo del Agua was founded in 2012 and is located in the dársena (basin) of the Canal de Castilla as it passes through Palencia, in a former grain warehouse. It promotes knowledge of how water has changed over time and offers a historical route through the uses of water in the city and its hydraulic heritage.
On 3 August 2021 a new exhibition was inaugurated, conceived as an immersive and multisensory experience centred on the Canal de Castilla. More than 150 square metres of projection show the canal in 360 degrees, with panoramic images, aerial views, 3D effects, video mapping, surround sound and original music.
The route is divided into four experiences: “El gran viaje” (The Great Journey), a journey through key places on the canal; “Memorias” (Memories), with documents from the 1930s rescued from the Filmoteca de Castilla y León and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero; “Cuadros en movimiento” (Paintings in Motion), a video-mapping show with floral aromas; and “Agua de vida” (Water of Life), which combines the sounds and colours of the canal.
