About the museum
The museum is inside the Instituto de Educación Secundaria Jorge Manrique, known in Palencia as the “Instituto Viejo” (Old Institute), a Modernist building from the early 20th century beside the Paseo del Salón de Isabel II. Jerónimo Arroyo (1871–1946), a native of Palencia who was an architect, politician, journalist and sculptor, designed it together with the Madrid architect Lorenzo Gallego. It was built between 1909 and 1915 as an educational centre.
The building has a square plan with a bright central courtyard, four corner towers and Modernist stained-glass windows by the Casa Mauméjean firm. Arroyo trained in Barcelona, where his teacher was Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
The museum brings together plans, photographs and various documents related to Jerónimo Arroyo himself. It is a biographical museum, run by the school, and visits are by appointment only.
