Temporarily closed. The museum has been temporarily closed for renovation since 25 May 2025 and no reopening date has been announced.

About the museum

The Museo Diocesano y Catedralicio de Valladolid opened in 1965 and occupies eleven restored chapels of the former Colegiata de Santa María, next to the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It brings together more than 450 pieces of painting, polychrome sculpture, goldsmith work and ivories from the cathedral and the diocese.

Among its most notable works are the Ecce Homo by Gregorio Fernández and the Custodia by Juan de Arfe, two representative examples of Spanish Baroque and Castilian religious art.

Since 25 May 2025 the museum has been temporarily closed for renovation. A wider project to restore and revitalise the cathedral complex, promoted by the Fundación Las Edades del Hombre, includes adapting parts of the museum, as well as reforming the Puerta de Santa María and recovering the access square (Patio de los Cipreses). No reopening date has been published.
