About the museum
The Museo de la Universidad de Valladolid (MUVa) manages, exhibits, studies and disseminates the university's historical, artistic and scientific collections. It opened on 24 April 2002, but its holdings are older: in 1857 the Moyano Law required medical faculties to have anatomy cabinets, and part of the scientific heritage preserved today comes from these.
The History and Art collection, housed in the Rector Tejerina Building, brings together heraldry, historical photography, luxury objects, teaching and liturgical material, archive documents, sculptures and paintings from the 16th century to the present. The Natural Sciences collection, in the Colegio García Quintana, spreads its pieces across ten rooms, from palaeontology to botany. The Biomedical Sciences collection, in the Faculty of Medicine, displays anatomical models, medical instruments and 19th-century pharmacy jars.
The museum belongs to the Vice-Rectorate for Communication, Culture and Sport. Entry to all collections, exhibitions and activities is free, and besides the tours of its rooms it organises temporary exhibitions, lecture series, museology courses and book presentations.
