About the museum
The Museo do Videoxogo, known as MUVI, grew out of the project “Barité Museo”, which Galo and Jacobo Martínez created between 2007 and 2008 to preserve a small collection of video game devices. Over the following decade the holdings grew thanks to collaborations and small cultural and business activities.
The museum opened on 2 February 2019 and presents itself as the first video game museum in Spain. Since its opening it has focused on Galician video games, culture and art as the pillars of its offer.
On 2 March 2020 the Fundación Museo do Videoxogo de Galicia was established, and on 20 July 2020 it was recognised as a Fundación de Interés Gallego (Galician Interest Foundation) by the Consellería de Cultura y Turismo of the Xunta de Galicia. The foundation promotes video games as a form of culture and art and as an educational tool.
The exhibition covers more than 300 m² and brings together thousands of video games, preserved hardware pieces and Galician video games that have been preserved and can be played.
