About the museum
The museum is in San Vicente de Toranzo, in the Toranzo valley (municipality of Corvera de Toranzo), and shows the relationship between people and the land through the trades and everyday customs of rural life. It covers about 700 m² across two floors and holds more than 10,000 items, including utensils, farm implements and tools, together with models, photographs and drawings.
The route is organised into thematic areas. Some are devoted to farm and livestock work (carts, yokes, ploughs and farming implements, mowers, ironwork and forge, beekeeping), others to trades and materials (timber processing, carpentry and bowls, wool, linen and hemp, weights and measures), and others to everyday life and popular culture (musical instruments, children's games, ice cream and wafers, cheese and butter, Pasiega cooking, mythology and Pasiega cabins, regional costumes).
Among the collections are 19 carts from Cantabria, the Pasiega valleys and other regions of Spain, and 156 yokes from the region and from countries such as France, Cuba, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Portugal, which the museum presents as the largest collection of its kind in the world. Another of its treasures is a Pasiega kitchen, moved complete from a cabin, with its bed, chimney and utensils. In 2008 the museum received the Club de los Museos award for keeping alive the memory of the relationship between people and the land, especially among children and young people.
