About the museum
The museum occupies the former hermitage of San Antonio, an 18th-century building in Vega de Pas that was restored to recreate the interior of a traditional Pasiega cabin. It opened in the late 1980s and records the customs of the Pas valley and in particular of the three villages that make it up: Vega de Pas, San Roque de Riomiera and San Pedro del Romeral.
The ground floor reproduces the cowshed with its manger and is divided into three areas: the cuévanos (baskets) and crafts, dairy products, with butter and cheese, and the livestock stall. On the upper floor the tascón (living area) is recreated, with its bed of dry grass, the churns and the granaries, alongside a hayloft with display cases and explanatory panels. Many pieces, such as farming and livestock implements or carpentry tools, come from donations by local residents.
The building follows the model of the Pasiega cabins, although, unlike the originals, the upper floor is reached by an interior staircase. The museum also has a small specialist library and the municipal archives of Vega de Pas.
