About the museum
The museum was founded to collect, preserve, research and make known ethnographic objects from Biar. Its aim is to show part of the life of the town's ancestors, their customs and their trades, and it highlights above all the pottery and glazed ceramic tradition for which the town is known.
It is housed in a 19th-century neoclassical house on Calle Mayor, next to Plaza de España. After the building was restored, the museum opened in June 1999. Most of the holdings come from private donations, although some pieces are municipally owned, which is why it is regarded as an open space that is never finished.
The collection exceeds a thousand pieces, spread across eleven rooms on three floors: 19th-century decorative arts, paintings by Juan Luna, objects related to weights and measures, goldsmith's work, furniture, ceramics, archaeological pieces dating from the 11th to the 20th century, objects from local festivals and an early 20th-century school classroom.
