About the museum
The Museo Galego de Arte Contemporánea Carlos Maside opened in 1970 to bring together a broad collection of works and documents by Galician artists from the generation of the 1930s onwards. It was designed, financed and is run by the Sargadelos business group, and it bears the name of the painter Carlos Maside.
The building forms part of a sociocultural complex in O Castro, in Samoedo (Sada), which includes a Sargadelos factory open to visitors, a shop and a tavern. It has three floors and is made up of hexagonal modules arranged around a central module, with a circular staircase and a floor that evokes the colours and spirit of Sargadelos.
The permanent collection brings together original works by major names of 20th-century Galician art, such as Castelao, Laxeiro, Maruja Mallo, Luis Seoane and Maside himself, as well as more recent artists such as Patiño and Leiro.
