About the museum
Villa Florentina is the house in Cecebre (Cambre) where the writer Wenceslao Fernández Flórez spent long periods to get away from Madrid. The rationalist-style building was designed in the late 1940s by the architect Antonio Tenreiro to blend into the Fraga de Cecebre, the neighbouring forest that inspired much of the author's work, including “El bosque animado” (The Animated Forest).
The Diputación de A Coruña (provincial council) bought the property in 1999 and, under an agreement signed in 2001 with the Fundación Wenceslao Fernández Flórez, made it a house museum and cultural space. The house keeps its original layout and furnishings, as well as the writer's personal library, paintings, photographs, book collections and objects from his everyday life.
The permanent exhibition presents his work and domestic life through these items. The foundation also uses the indoor and outdoor spaces for cultural activities and organises literary routes through the Fraga de Cecebre.
