About the museum
The Museo Municipal de Archidona occupies the Casa del Pósito, also called the Casa de la Cilla, a 16th-century building that served as a granary for the dukes of Osuna. The building was rehabilitated for cultural use and opened as a museum in 2004. It is on the Plaza de la Victoria, a short distance from the Plaza Ochavada.
The exhibition is spread over three rooms. The first traces local history from the Palaeolithic, with references to the Cueva de las Grajas, up to the contemporary era, and includes Stone Age and Bronze Age tools, models of historic buildings and documents. The Sala de la Villa is dedicated to permanent and temporary exhibitions, and the Sala de la Memoria Colectiva brings together the religious, cultural and traditional heritage of the municipality. Photographs, paintings and drawings complete the holdings.
