About the museum

The Museo Picasso-Colección Eugenio Arias was the first museum created and opened by the Community of Madrid. Since 1985 it has occupied rooms in the Buitrago del Lozoya town hall, and it holds a collection that tells the story of a friendship: that of Pablo Picasso and Eugenio Arias, his barber during the last twenty-five years of his life, from 1948 to 1973.

Arias met Picasso in Vallauris, in the south of France, during the artist's exile. Over the years Picasso gave him various works as tokens of affection. When the exile ended, the barber wished the collection to remain in his home town, Buitrago, and ceded it in 1982.

The holdings are very varied: drawings, graphic works, photographs, ceramics, pyrographs and a cagafierro, as well as exhibition posters and books dedicated by the artist to Eugenio Arias.
