About the museum
The Museo del Paloteo, part of the Centro de Interpretación del Folklore in San Pedro de Gaíllos, opened on 28 February 2009. Many of its pieces come from villagers who donated or loaned them, and the texts draw on rigorous documentation, with modern technical means to aid understanding.
The exhibition covers two floors with five spaces devoted to the history and tradition of San Pedro de Gaíllos, to ritual dances in history, tradition and the locality, to the village’s dance group, to stick dances in Spain and around the world, and to music and musicians of the tradition. It combines information panels, a selection of photographs, objects and cultural items, audiovisual projections, sound modules and traditional instruments used in paloteo.
The centre also runs an educational programme for groups, and since 2006 the town has held the Planeta Folk festival.
