About the museum
The museum occupies a mansion that Segundo Sierra-Pambley had built in 1848 on the Plaza de la Catedral in León. The house retains much of its original furniture and decoration, including wallpapers, carpets, textiles, tableware and cutlery, and shows how a well-off family lived, combining the legacy of two León lineages with the novelties of its time.
The visit covers two floors. The first, used for receptions, is furnished and decorated in a luxurious style. The second was the family area and contains English and Sargadelos tableware, silverware, glassware and the main bedroom.
The museum forms part of the Sierra-Pambley Foundation, created by Francisco Fernández Blanco de Sierra-Pambley with the support of Francisco Giner de los Ríos, Gumersindo de Azcárate and Manuel Bartolomé Cossío. The Sala Cossío presents its educational work: five schools founded between 1887 and 1903 in Villablino, Hospital de Órbigo, Villameca, Moreruela de Tábara and León, which applied the intuitive and experimental method of the Institución Libre de Enseñanza. The collection comprises around 3,000 pieces.
