About the museum
The Museu Agrícola de Cambrils occupies the former winery of the Agricultural Cooperative, a building designed by the architect Bernardí Martorell from 1914 onwards, with a clear influence of Gaudí, and opened in 1921. It is built on a slope, which allowed gravity to be used during winemaking, and it is notable for its brick chain arches made with bricks from local kilns. It is a cultural asset of local interest.
The winery was in operation until 1993, the year in which the cooperative's wine section was dissolved. The conversion into a museum began in 1994, driven by the Agricultural Cooperative with support from the town council and the Diputación de Tarragona, thanks to its inclusion in the network of the Museu d'Història de Cambrils. The museum opened in 1998 together with the Agrobotiga, a shop where products of the cooperative members were sold, including extra virgin olive oil with the DO Siurana designation.
The permanent exhibition “L'elaboració de l'oli i del vi” fills the main hall and shows, with the original installations and machinery, the process for both products from the arrival of the raw material to the final extraction: vats, presses, mills, tubs and barrels. According to the municipal website, the museum is currently temporarily closed and does not admit visitors.
