About the museum
The Molí de les Tres Eres is a former hydraulic flour mill located where the Camí Reial from Tarragona to Tortosa crossed the road linking the coast with the old town of Cambrils. Its origins go back to the 14th century, and it occupied the central point of a chain of three mills (Molí de Dalt, del Mig and d'Avall) that operated until the mid-19th century. The middle mill continued to grind flour until around 1895 and afterwards, until the Civil War, was used to crush sulphur and also served as a dwelling.
After years of neglect, the Centre d'Estudis Cambrilencs began its restoration at the end of the eighties. In 1996 the building became the property of the town council, which entrusted its management to the Centre d'Estudis. The restoration, financed by the town council, the Diputación de Tarragona, the Generalitat and the European Union (European project HIDRAULIC), was completed in 2001 with the opening of the permanent exhibition on the mill. Today the building, a cultural asset of local interest, is the main seat of the Museu d'Història de Cambrils.
On the ground floor is “Cambrils: els orígens”, an archaeological route from prehistory to Late Antiquity with Neolithic, Iberian and Roman pieces from the municipality's sites; the bronzes from the Roman villa of La Llosa stand out. In the millstone room, the two horizontal-runner mills began grinding again after the restoration and allow visitors to see parts of the building and its machinery. The mill also hosts temporary exhibitions and lectures.
