About the museum
The Museu del Vermut grew out of four decades of collecting by Joan Tàpias, who gathered thousands of bottles, posters and objects related to vermouth from all over the world. The museum presents this collection, considered the largest devoted to this drink, and explains the close relationship between vermouth and the city of Reus, known as the capital of vermouth.
The museum occupies a Modernista building on calle Vallroquetes, designed in 1918 by the Reus architect Pere Caselles. The building, of more than 500 square metres, was completely refurbished and turned into a museum, although its Modernista façade has remained intact. It is spread over two floors with four themed areas: on the ground floor, the bar decorated with hundreds of bottles, a large courtyard and the Espacio Martini; on the first floor, three salons named after historic Reus vermouth brands (Miró, Yzaguirre and Iris-de Muller).
The visit is free of charge, and the museum shares its space with a Mediterranean restaurant and a vermouth bar, run by the Tàpias family. The house also makes its own vermouth, Vermut Cori, created in 2014 in collaboration with Vermuts Miró.
