About the museum
In 1990 the Fundación Juan March created its museum in Palma to show a collection of 20th-century Spanish art. It is housed in a former 17th-century mansion, known as Can Gallard del Canyar, in the heart of the historic centre of the city. The venue combines the museum with a free cultural programme, a library and a shop.
The collection covers the various trends and figures of 20th-century Spanish art, with special attention to developments in recent decades. It includes works by more than fifty artists, from the early avant-garde, with names such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Juan Gris or Salvador Dalí, to the innovative movements of the mid-century and the most recent generations.
The collection is periodically reorganised to make room for temporary exhibitions. Since 1998 the museum has made its holdings and exhibitions available to teachers in the Balearic Islands for the education of their pupils, and the venue also offers concerts, lectures and free-admission cycles.
