About the museum
The Museu Capitular is the museum of the Cathedral of Mallorca, the Seu de Palma. It occupies some 200 square metres spread over three main rooms and is reached through the Casa de l'Almoina, beside the bell tower. Its façade dates from 1529, and the interior preserves mural paintings in the Mudéjar tradition.
The first room is the former sacristy of the Vermells, from the early 14th century. The second is the former Gothic chapter room, which is attributed to Guillem Sagrera. The third is the Baroque chapter room, designed in 1696 and decorated with floral motifs, where the cathedral's collection of goldsmith's work is kept.
Among the pieces on display are a seven-branched candelabrum, early 18th-century silverwork by Joan Matons and a large monstrance from 1585; the Baroque room also holds a reliquary of the Lignum Crucis. The cloister, built in 1707 over a former orchard, shows fragments of earlier cathedral works in its walls.
