About the museum
The Museu Kreković is a museum of the Consell de Mallorca in the Llevant district of Palma, devoted to the work of Kristian Krekovic, a portrait painter who settled in Mallorca and was able to portray Spanish and Balearic culture. The collection also includes works inspired by Peruvian society, which the artist depicted in his personal style.
In June 2026 the Consell de Mallorca presented the new museographic project for the centre, the first update of the permanent collection in ten years. The new route includes 22 works and reinforces the figure of Krekovic. It also renews the space dedicated to foreign artists who developed part of their work on the island during the 20th century, with pieces by creators such as Tito Cittadini, Roberto Ramaugé, George Sheridan, Mati Klarwein, William Edwards Cook or Steve Afif, among others.
The opening also included the award of the first Premi KrekoArt, a biennial competition of the Consell to choose an artistic intervention on the museum's main façade. It was won by Oriol Angrill Jordà with “Memoria de marès: El rostro de Krekovic”, a large portrait of the painter in a bas-relief effect against a background inspired by the Mallorcan tela de lenguas. Admission is free.
