About the museum
Ca l’Eudald is the home of the Museu de la Mina Vella. It is a former water mill built in 1806, which was restored and fitted out as a museum, open to the public since 2000. The museum is linked to the water company Aigües de la Mina Vella, one of the oldest in Spain.
The visit begins in the courtyard, where the Vilassar de Mar weather station is located, with automatic and manual instruments. Next comes the well of Ca l’Eudald, one of the eight wells that supply the town: it is three metres in diameter and 45 metres deep, and is the widest in the town. Beside it are the solar panels of a small power station, and in the trastejador's hut (caseta del trastejador) it is explained how water reaches the town from the wells and mines.
The permanent collection is spread over five rooms. On the ground floor the history of the water company and the distribution of water in Vilassar de Mar are explained; in the former cellars of the mill, visitors learn how wells and mines were built, and on the third cellar level they can see the old drainage mine, now dry, of almost 300 metres in length. The museum also has a library specialising in water topics, the historical archive of the Mina Vella and a hall for lectures and courses.
