About the museum
The Museu de Premià de Dalt, created in 1998, is a municipal service that conserves, researches and promotes the cultural heritage of the municipality. It occupies several rooms of Can Figueres, a farmhouse documented since the 13th century and refurbished at the end of the 19th century as a summer house, surrounded by a garden. The main façade stands out, with Gothic windows and an arched doorway. In 1994 the town council acquired the estate and converted it into a Casa de Cultura (cultural centre).
The permanent exhibition explains the Iberian and Roman past of Premià in its immediate surroundings. It interprets the excavated remains of the Iberian settlement of La Cadira del Bisbe, to which the museum pays particular attention, and presents a small display of unusual Roman objects from other municipalities. The virtual projection “Jo, Premià” tells the story of the town's origins and of the evolution of the valley through history.
The museum offers schools a broad educational programme with guided visits to the exhibition and guided itineraries. It also manages the archaeological interventions in the municipality and advises on the declaration of assets of local cultural interest.
