About the museum
The Museu de Sant Boi de Llobregat was created in 1998 to research, conserve and promote the cultural and natural heritage of the town. Since 2011 its main venue has been Can Barraquer, a 14th-century manor house in the heart of the old town, where Rafael Casanova, the last conseller en cap of the Consell de Cent of Barcelona, lived and died. Can Torrents, another manor house built on Roman walls, now houses the museum's technical services and the Municipal Historical Archive.
The museum forms a museum zone linking several sites with Roman, medieval and modern remains. The Termes Romanes are the private baths of a Late Roman villa and are considered the best preserved in Catalonia. The Torre de Benviure was built in the 10th century to defend the territories of Barcelona against attacks from al-Andalus.
The permanent exhibition “Sant Boi: temps i espai” summarises local history from the Iberian period to the present, with areas devoted to Iberian culture, Roman culture, the medieval period, the age of conflicts, the modern period and the contemporary period. The route makes use of the building's architecture and various finds made underground to show how the ancestors lived. The main holdings are Iberian, Roman and medieval archaeological remains and ethnographic material.
