About the museum

The Museu Fran Daurel belongs to the Fundació Fran Daurel, founded in 1995 by the businessman Francisco Daurella to promote and disseminate art. It opened in December 2001 in the grounds of the Poble Espanyol on Montjuïc, to display his private collection of contemporary art.

The collection brings together more than 300 works by over 80 artists from different periods and styles, including Picasso (also with original ceramics), Miró, Dalí, Antoni Tàpies, Óscar Domínguez, Miquel Barceló, Eduardo Chillida, Josep Guinovart and Jaume Plensa. It covers painting, sculpture, drawing and ceramics.

In 2004 the sculpture garden, part of the museum, opened, with 36 sculptures by 27 artists in 3,000 m² of gardens, and a viewpoint over Barcelona. The foundation also maintains spaces in Madrid (Aravaca) and in Ventalló (Girona).
