About the museum

The Observatorio del Arte is an interpretation centre of the Ecoparque de Trasmiera, a project of Arnuero town council. It is in the Estorriguera district, beside the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, and also hosts temporary exhibitions and cultural events.

Its interactive and educational exhibition is devoted to the Trasmeran craftsmen: stonemasons, sculptors, bell-founders and other masters from the Trasmiera region who worked throughout Spain, in Portugal and in America. It explains how they carried out their work and presents some of their most important works in Arnuero, elsewhere in Trasmiera and in the rest of Spain.

The visit includes the church of the Asunción, whose altarpiece, the work of Simón de Bueras dated 1542, the centre describes as the most important example of the plateresque style in Cantabria.
