About the museum

The picture gallery of Bodegas Tradición was founded in 2005 on the initiative of Joaquín Rivero, an art scholar, with two principles: only painting, and only works of Spanish origin. The winery describes it as one of the finest private art collections in Andalusia and as a unique exhibition in Spain because it is housed within a winery.

The collection brings together more than three hundred works from the 14th to the 19th centuries and makes it possible to follow the evolution of techniques and styles over six centuries, from workshop painting, with many assistants, to the work of artists who worked individually. The masters represented include Goya, Velázquez, Murillo and El Greco.

The gallery is part of Bodegas Tradición, a winery that goes back to the former Bodega CZ, founded in 1650, and that also has its own historical and photographic archives. The gallery can only be visited as part of the guided tour that combines the winery, the gallery and a tasting.
